The Laser 128 Computer And External Disk Drives
by Dick Marchiafava
JNote: This item is reproduced from an item published in Mini'app'les, the /
newsletter of the Minnesota Apple User Group.
MOwners of Laser 128 computers (an Apple //c work alike) should be aware of a P
Ndifference between the Laser 128 and the //c which would affect the choice of "
an external (second) disk drive.
NA problem arises when selecting an Apple //c compatible disk drive to be used M
Kwith the Laser 128. Apparently, the Laser power supply puts out a bit more K
Ivoltage than the //c supply. The effect of this in respect to disk drive P
Noperation is that the motor in an external drive will turn faster than if the N
Ldrive were connected to a //c or //e. The difference in speed may enough to 9
put the drive rotational speed beyond operating limits.
FCaution: When selecting a second disk drive for use with a Laser 128, O
Mdetermine if the drive has a speed adjustment. Not all //c compatible drives ;
have a speed adjustment, and may not work with the Laser.
